Nickel shows good corrosion resistance in many acidic and alkaline environments and is often used in reducing media. The biggest feature of nickel is the corrosion resistance of alkaline media, such as caustic soda, caustic soda, etc., is widely used in ionic film caustic soda process. Nickel has good corrosion resistance in dry fluorine. Nickel is also successfully used in dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride from room temperature to 540℃. It can also be used in stationary hydrofluoric acid solutions. Nickel has good mechanical properties in a relatively wide temperature range, is easy to cold work (elongation: δ≥40~60%), and the processing characteristics are similar to low carbon steel. Pure nickel is particularly resistant to alkali corrosion and is relatively stable in either high temperature or molten alkali, so it is mainly used in the alkali industry. At room temperature, nickel is extremely stable in seawater, salt solutions and organic media (such as fatty acids, phenols, alcohols, etc.). It is not resistant to inorganic acid corrosion and is unstable in acetic acid and formic acid.
